About Dr. Austin Gerald D. Austin, DPM, is an experienced podiatrist in San Jose, California. Dr. Austin completed his bachelor’s degree in molecular biology with minors in organic chemistry and Spanish at the University of Oregon. While in college, Dr. Austin participated in neuroscience research contributing to a publication in the Journal of Developmental Biology. Dr. Austin has lived in the Bay Area since 1996 when he began his graduate education at the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco. While completing his podiatric medicine degree, he conducted research studying melatonin administration in diabetic rats. After earning his Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine with honors, his postgraduate education took him to LAC+USC Medical Center for a one-year residency in primary podiatric medicine. Dr. Austin spent the next two years of his residency in the Bay Area, where he completed his podiatric surgical training at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Santa Clara. During his training, he discovered several areas of interest, including correcting clubfoot deformity in children, diabetic foot care, and foot and ankle fractures. Dr. Austin is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and California Podiatric Medical Association and is the secretary for the Santa Clara Valley Podiatric Medical Society. He is fluent in English and Spanish and enjoys treating patients of all backgrounds. . |
