Dr. Kaldas is a native of southern California where he completed his undergraduate studies in microbiology, immunology, and molecular genetics at UCLA, and obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of California Irvine School of Medicine. He then moved to New York where he completed his surgical residency training at SUNY Stony Brook Department of Surgery before returning to UCLA to complete his multi-organ transplant fellowship training under the mentorship of Dr. Ronald W. Busuttil at the Dumont-UCLA transplant center. Dr. Kaldas is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, and he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Kaldas specializes in the surgical management of benign and malignant liver disease. This ranges from laparoscopic and open liver resection for tumors such as liver cancer, bile duct cancer, and metastatic colon cancer to complex liver transplantation. He has active research studies in hepatocellular carcinoma and ischemia reperfusion injury of the liver.
