Welcome to the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Fremont - Central District Kumon Center! Kumon is the world’s leading after-school learning program. Our unique self-learning method gives students age 3 through high school an academic advantage. Kumon boosts math and reading skills using worksheets designed to be completed at each student’s own pace. Students only advance to the next course after they’ve mastered the subject. Many parents of Kumon students report that their children study above grade level. Worksheets cover a variety of subjects – from counting to calculus, and from phonics to Shakespeare. Kumon also starts early learners off with classroom essentials like pencil skills. Kumon was founded in 1954 in Osaka, Japan, by Toru Kumon, a math teacher who wanted his son Takeshi to enjoy learning math and be prepared for his school career. By incrementally increasing the difficulty of each short assignment, Toru was able to boost Takeshi’s skills – and other parents took notice. The Kumon Method was born, and the first Kumon Center opened in 1958 in Japan. By 1974, Kumon Centers made their way to the U.S. Kumon continues to be the global leader in after-school learning programs, boosting math and reading skills for more than 16 million students since its inception.
