Lourdes G. Bahamonde, DO, is a fellowship-trained gastroenterologist providing comprehensive medical care at her office in Cudahy, California. Dr. Bahamonde has performed over 7,500 colorectal and gastric cancer screening endoscopies with polypectomies and mucosal resections, as well as advanced disease screenings for chronic liver disease. She specializes in diagnosing and treating a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, including celiac disease, Barrett’s esophagus, fatty liver disease, and irritable bowel syndrome. She values the time spent with her patients, educating them about their general health.
Dr. Bahamonde earned a bachelor's degree in psychobiology at the University of California, Los Angeles, and a master's in bio-physiology at California State University, Los Angeles, before earning her medical degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Long Island. She then completed a residency in internal medicine at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York. Dr. Bahamonde pursued a fellowship in gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). She also completed a clinical fellowship in medical ethics.
Dr. Bahamonde’s office is fully equipped with the latest diagnostic technologies, including upper and lower endoscopy, colonoscopy, and esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). These procedures can uncover the root cause of bowel changes, abdominal pain, heartburn, and other gastrointestinal issues. Dr. Bahamonde also offers comprehensive care through a telemedicine platform, assisting patients from wherever they are.
In addition to her high standard of medical care, Dr. Bahamonde specializes in medical ethics and is the founder and CEO of Global Bioethics Institute. She has dedicated her life to serving diverse communities through education and cultural competence, recognizing the importance of open communication in shared-decision making. She addresses ethical issues using facts and logic to determine the best course of treatment for each patient.
Dr. Bahamonde continues to inspire future health care leaders as volunteer faculty in clinical medicine, medical ethics, and clinical research. She is dedicated to facilitating translational science efforts for youth in STEM programs and students in pre-health professions. Dr. Bahamonde also teaches ethics at UCLA and has participated in clinical research on various medical topics. She is the author of many articles for peer-reviewed publications, including the American Journal of Gastroenterology. She presents her work at conferences around the country.
